“Create Event When SNMP Data Request Fails” help says: “Enable this check box to create an event when a node does not respond to an SNMP Get request within one hour from the first attempt..”. I did the following things:
1) Create a script to handle this event
2) Select OV_DataColl_AgentDn event.
3) Open Event Configurator;
4) In “Command for Automatic Action” edit box typed the path to my script
5) Kill snmp process on some node.

The results:
a) my script is never run;
b) “Alarm Browser” had no log message about this event;

My goal: an agent is down - get an alert as soon as possible.
Thanks a lot,

stan

A couple of ideas off the top of my head, did you enter the command into the Trusted Commands directory? And have you checked 'ovactiond.log' for anything out of the ordinary?

Hi Alex,

First of all, thank for your response. Yes, I did. I can get an OV_DataColl_AgentDn event after 30 – 70 minutes after I put an agent down. After that my script runs perfectly. But I need to get this event within 1 minute. There is another problem that I discovered yesterday:
1) killed an agent;
2) Waited until a OV_DataColl_AgentDn event has been generated (> 30 minutes);
3) Waited another 1 hour;
4) Disconnected a hardware that must be monitored;
5) Up the agent;
There was none events about the disconnected hardware. I run snmpget process and get a value of 0 (is it a demand poll?). This value is OK, but snmpCollect kept silence, and there was no records about 4) when I used the Alarm Browser.

Alex, what do you think about this?

Thanks a lot,

Stan
