Hi Experts,
I just want to find out what is in the solaris boxes like partititons, what COTS products are installed, where are these products installed(path) , what mount points the server has got. Can some one please let me know how to get all this info.

Thanks
Sam

prtdiag - System Configuration
pkginfo -l - Lists all packages installed
df -h - Displays what mounts are active and all file system sizes (-k displays in kilobytes)

Some of the other things you asked about I don't know for sure, but hopefully this helps get you started.

Thanks! Just want to let you know that I am running solaris 5.8 version. prtdiag and df -h is not working for this version.

I just checked with some of my Solaris admin collegues and they're telling me that prtdiag should work just fine in Solaris 8. You might have to find it, as it might not be in your PATH variable. Check /usr/sbin for starters. This is where it is for Solaris 10. As for the DF command, use the "-k" instead. That will give it to you in kilobytes. I was told the "-h" wasn't introduced until Solaris 9.

Hi,

try /usr/platform/`uname -m`/sbin/prtdiag -v

I want to be good, is that not enough?

None of the above is working and i checked in sbin directory , there is no prtdiag file. Actually this command is going to display system diagnostic information, what I am looking for is the Partition information, Cots products installed on different partitions/mount points. How can get that info?

What do you mean by "COTS products"?

Have you managed to identify their package names in the pkginfo listing? If they are contained in packages you can identify which files are installed where by searching for the package names in /var/sadm/install/contents.

What does the output of df -k look like?

Annihilannic.

Regardless of whether it's suitable or not, /usr/platform/`uname -m`/sbin/prtdiag -v should work. Are you sure you're using backticks (above the left hand tab key on my keyboard), not the normal apostrophes?

I want to be good, is that not enough?

Not working. I do not have admin access right, could it be the reason I can not run this command.

Possibly - I'll take a look at the permissions on the file at work tomorrow. Not having admin (by which I take it you mean root?) rights is something of a hindrance to your success in this task though!

I want to be good, is that not enough?

Hmm. Permissions seem to indicate that evberyone should be able to execute prtdiag.
