Hi,

I am a beginner in Cognos Imprompt reports. I have just created some simple reports with defalut extension .IMR
How is it possible to get an .Exe file for the same? I didnt see any compile option in it just like crystal reports. How the people who does not have impromptu installed in their system can run the report with all prompting text or select criteria?

Pls reply

Thanks
Jessy

Jessy,
To run Impromptu reports, one needs a copy (licenced, naturally) of Impromptu and access to the catalogue used. If you want to share the reports with someone without Impromptu, then they either have to make do with a just a version of the results (pdf, csv, xls) or pony up for the web version of impromptu whereby anyone with IE5 browser and access to the server can run it. (Note that even the Web version has a licence restriction).

Hi,

If i am saving the reports as excel and giving it to the user...what will happen if there is a prompt in the report?

For eg i am using a prompt for start date and end date .If i am saving the report as excel and giving to the user...user can see only the report for that particular date range? What if he want to see the same report for another date range? Is the prompt i created in IMR file is valid in the excel also?

Basically i want to know whether prompts will work in excel version of imprompt?

Thanks
Jessy

Jessy,
Impromptu reports have to run on Impromptu - either on the user's PC as a stand-alone application or on the server via IE5 browser on the user's PC. Both require the appropriate cognos licence. Without the ability to run impromptu and input the prompts, the only way a user can see the report is as a static result, be it printed or a representation (excel, .pdf or .csv/.txt). If you have reports that need user prompts, then either you supply that user with a way to run Impromptu or you have to run the report on his/her prompts and then submit the results in a required format.
It then becomes a resource:expense argument
