I am looking to utilize the "mail" command in hpux to setup alerts for specific activities. This would email a message to an internet mail address. How do I have to setup my unix configuration to be able to forward mail to a separate SMTP server on the network (also directly on the internet) so that any outside email address can receive these?

You need to set the mail forwarding host in your sendmail.cf file -- and then restart sendmail.

This host needs to be a mail server capable of forwarding mail.

There are a couple of other threads in the UNIX forums asking about this actually. Could I suggest you search on sendmail in the UNIX forums?

Might be worth writing the various post up into a FAQ -- now then, if I *only* knew something about sendmail.... Mike

Email welcome if you're in a hurry or something -- but post in tek-tips as well please, and I will post my reply here as well.
