How to format a date in crystal reports 4.5 plz inform me fast

Dear Readers ,
Look my basic requirement is, How do we format a date in crystal report 4.5.The date field is basically a string.We get this Date from the database and the database is As/400.Iam using VB 6.0 as my front end.

So when i ask to show the report it is not getting formatted and plz tell me how we format a date in crystal reports 4.5 using VB 6.0 as front end.

What does the string look like now?

What data - type is this field when you browse it? In other words does "basically" a string mean a DateTimeString or a Character field.
