I have a 1616-I that's doing the flashing LCD thing at boot. I just started at my company and have no experience with phone systems, but I'm learning (too fast!). I've done TV repair for a number of years, and am comfortable with meters, soldering, component-level replacements, etc. I keep reading that the flash can be copied from a good set to this bad one, as long as I modify the MAC once I've done it. I can't find ANYWHERE what-all is involved in flashing the IC. How do I obtain the good info from one to apply to the bad one, and are any replacement parts required?

We usually send them back and tell Avaya they are busted. Repair is done at Avaya (or a cheap labour country) and then they come back as refurbished.

Is it possible to take care of in-house, though? I'd be interested in taking care of things in-house whenever possible.

Honestly, just send it back. Its covered under warranty. The postage will cost a lot less than your time pissing around with the phone.

I don't see what's contradictory about my statements... I'm new to the job, but want to learn to fix as many things as possible without outsourcing.

I wasn't aware that was covered under warranty. They've had these phones for some time now and I thought they were out of warranty. Your point is well taken on time vs postage, though. Thanks.

The point is that you do not have the tools and software to flash the phone.
Although there seems to be software on the sport site and it mentions the tool but we cannot buy them over here.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

To bad, cause I really like to repair the shit myself istead of going on site and replace all the extensions under our 'warranty'

I admire your attitude of wanting to do as much in house as possible but as HSM suggests some things are just not worth the agro.

you would need the correct equipment to reprogram the flash chips in use (Are they reprogrammable in circuit or do they need to be removed first?) this will not be cheap & unless you are repairing a significant number of phones you will never recoup your investment.

Many years ago I used to work for in the SDX leper colony (which was later sold to Multimessage) & I still wouldn't wast my time trying to fix this stuff myself.
