maybe this is an unusual question, but I'm considering taking a course which covers a few of the usual certifications, including the CCNA. where can I go to check if the training provider is actually certified? should I just take their word for it?
The only AUTHORIZED cisco training program at schools is the cisco network academy program, where all instructors must pass exams in the material in order to teach the courses, etc.
That being said, there are a number of schools out there which provide cisco training (some good, and some bad, like anything else) for CCNA/CCNP/CCIE certifications.
If you want to do cisco training on the cheap, get 2 2501's off of ebay, a 4500M with 4 serial and 2 ethernet ports, and a 1924 catalyst switch (try to get products with at least 12.x IOS images for the routers, and 9.0 for the 1924), add in some crossover serial cables, cat 5 cables, get the CCNA prep book by wendell odom, along with perhaps a case studies/lab book, and hack away. The cost for all of this gear would come to about $1,000 (US) or so, and you can study at your own pace, or team up with a friend who wants to get certified also (great way to study and learn, if you are self-motivated).
