In my Temporary Internet files folder there are some files over 700 MB and i guess they could be movie files or DAT files. These files have no extension so i presume they might have been some incomplete files while downloading.
I tried renaming them with MOV it didnt work,i tried to open them in windows media player, still it wouldnt work,i need to find the associate program to open these files.
How do i find what type files these are?

Also my windows media player quality is become bad since i reinstalled WIN XP in my laptop.I installed DIVX codec and all codecs i could think of,still the quality isnt the way it was before reinstall. Please let me know.

Delete them along with all of the other files in that folder. They're just extra baggage.

Re the quality issue, did you re-install the correct drivers for your graphics hardware? Go to the laptop manufacturer's web site and download all the drivers from there.

could be divX or xVid, in which case they are probably incomplete and needs to br fixed...

or if they are exe installers or zips then there's nothing you can do...

The first few bytes in most files contain a signature for that type file. You can sometimes determine the file type if you open the file using a ascii/hex viewer. Doing this with a .GIF you would see the first few characters are GIF89a. For some files it it unintelligible hex garbage so you'd need to do a bit of Googling.
