I know how to fill an object, but how can I fill a square made of four lines?

Can the four lines in the shape of a square somehow be converted to an object so I can fill it with color? Is there a trace or convert feature?

I know it would be simple to redraw as an object, but I have numerous custom shapes that I would like to fill.

Thanks

try toying with the pathfinder tools...

Unfortunately, I couldn't get anything to work using Paths. HOWEVER, for anyone else that this thread may help, I did figure out that if you select two corners and use the Join (Ctrl-J) option, and do this for each of the four corners in the square that this method will basically create a shape thus allowing you to fill the object with color, patterns, or other features that can be done with an object.
