Hi,

I have played with Fireworks on/off for a couple of years, but still consider myself a novice. I'm not a designer, but am teaching myself Fireworks.

I thought this was a relatively easy thing to do. I would like to fill an object I created with a color. Here are the steps I'm using to do that:

1. Using the Line tool, I created 4 lines to create a skewed-looking rectangle.
2. Next, I selected a 4 lines and grouped them.
3. Then I used the select tool to select my recently grouped object. I changed the properties of the object as follows:
- I changed the color of the Fill (to green) and I changed the Stroke Color (to black).

But I cannot seem to get the image filled. Also, the "selected borders" are outside of my graphic (although it encloses it.

Here's something else I tried:
- I selected the Sub-Selection tool and then clicked on each line to select it, holding the Shift key down. Then I changed the properties again to fill to green with a stroke color of black.

I still couldn't get it to fill.

I also tried using the Paint Bucket. I would select my object, then click on the Paint Bucket tool, move it over my object and click. This one was also no dice.

The only way I'm able to get this to work is to select my colors beforehand, and then use the auto-shapes and the box is created that way. However, I would really prefer to draw my own shape.

Can anyone provide any insight into what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I figured out how to do this if anyone's wondering. Instead of creating for separate lines to make my rectangle, I used the regular Shapes tool to make a standard rectangle and then used the Distort tool until I received the look I wanted. A warning, though, it was very tedious. Hope this helps someone in the future.
