Hi All,

Thanks in advance for answering my question

We have a client who wants us to build a Data Warehouse and provide reports via Tableau. Data servers will be hosted with us (remote from the client). Our IT doesn't want to provide VPN access or create AD accounts for the client on the server

Question is: Once we develop data warehouse, how do we provide access (via Tableau) to the client? Do we need to create SSAS cube in order to facilitate this or can they just query the data warehouse (via Tableau). If so, what would we need to do to make it happen

Appreciate your time

Kumar

You can provide "service accounts" to the client without ever giving them the ability to sign on to the servers directly. These service accounts would use JDBC, ODBC, or other database access methods to communicate with the database from third-party off-the-shelf software or via custom developed tools. In your case, you could have a Tableau service account. Or you could allow each user to have a role in the database, but still prevent that database account from accessing the server except through the database.
