I've recently downloaded FRSdiag and ran it on all of our doamin controllers. When I hit the Browse button (to select what DC's to run it on) one of them was missing - instead, there was another name called abcd-zihp0dh58d - where abcd is our comany name and also our domain name. So it seems like there's some corruption in our AD, is that correct? I presume this server co-orelates to the missing server, but I have no idea why. Is there any way that I can examine AD to check that everything is OK and also find out where this came from?

Have you tried running DCDIAG and NETDIAG (Windows Server support tools). DCDIAG checks the health of your AD infrastructure looking for issues and NETDIAG will diagnose network connectivity issues in your domain.

thanks for the reply itsp - I used ADSI edit to have a look at AD and under DC=domain,DC=local I found under that server with an attribute called fRSComputerReferenceBL which had the value I saw in FRSdiag. However, under CN=NTFRS Subscriptions,CN=SERVER_NAME,OU=Domain Controllers,DC=domain,dc=local I found an attribute called fRSMemberReference with the same value. I have 2 questions:

1. I'd like to change these to the correct value, but I'm concerned that there may be other attributes somewhere else in the schema with this value also. Do you have any pointers on where else I should look? Or any way of searching for this value?

2. I tried to change the fRSComputerReferenceBL value to the correct one (selected edit then selected the value and hit remove, edited it and entered the new one) but when I clicked OK I got a message saying "The attribute cannot be modified because it is owned by the system". Any ideas of how I can get around this?

Thanks in advance for any help
