We have to AS400 servers at our office that we want to get rid of. How do we wipe the hard drives of these machines? We have very sensitive data on them.

Also, anyone want them? I will entertain offers. The servers are located in Tampa, FL. They come complete with a couple of consoles, cables, and tape drives.

Use the WRKLIB *ALL command at the command line

Ignore the Q* libs - they are part of the operating system from IBM (OS/400) and you probably couldn't clear them even if you wanted to.

note any other libs that you want to "erase"

Use the CLRLIB (clear library) command to destroy all data in that library.

ie CLRLIB payroll (substitute the name of your lib)

that will do it.

Without knowing more about as/400's, I can only tell you what I see on the front. One of them is an as/400 Advanced Server and the other is an as/400e Series. I know the first one has approximately 17 gig of disk space and I think has the PowerPC option installed. I haven't powered on the other yet so I don't know how much drive space it has.

If one has the PowerPc installed in it, I would be interested.

Turns out that we purchased 2 PowerPC upgrades, and we have 2 AS/400's, so I'm pretty certain they both have them. Does anyone know how to check that without powering on the AS/400?

I have detailed specs on one: Product 9406-170 e-Server. 5 x 4.19 GB Disk Unit with the RAID option, 128 MB of Main Storage, and I think this last line means it has Ethernet.

The other one has 5 type 6606 drives in it (I think they are 1.5 GB each). I don't know anything else about it, except that it probably has the PowerPC upgrade.

Hi

The most efficient way of removing sensitive data is to do it in Dedicated service tools.

You can basically "reformat" the disks

I can assure you there is no way of getting it back through any kind of undo or erase tools (possibly with the exception of some internal IBM tools).

I can send you some info on how to do it if you want to go this way.

That's what I ended up doing: DST to initialize the disks.

I too would be interested in your servers. I have in the past and currently do Disaster recovery work. I can walk you through how to "scratch" your system(wiping all data).Let me know if you still need help with this and you still would like get rid of the servers when you are done. Email me mjjager66@hotmail.com with the details of what you need help with.
