How to enter more than 255 characters in a field

I need to allow users to enter more than 255 characters in a field. I know this is a stupid way but my boss doesn't want me to change the procedure. Is there a way to input lots of text in a field? I know I can use an MS Word attachment or something, but I am trying to avoid that.

Anything help will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Change the field type from text to memo. Memo allows 64,000 characters.
