After the recent story in the NY Times where Iron Mountain lost the backup media for Time Warner in transit my manager has become concerned that this could happen to us (we use Iron Mountain as well). So now he wants to have encrypted backups.
I have been looking into this, but the solutions I have seen envolve a staging area where the encrpted backup data is first put to disk before being put to tape.
Is there a product (IBM or otherwise) that would allow you to backup straight to tape, encrpyting while it is writing to tape? I suspect that Tivoli may be able to do this but haven't found doucmentation that states that you can encrypt while streaming to tape.
We are running AIX 5.1.
Thanks,
Mark
