The VP gets e-mail from this company which uses god knows what to send their e-mail.Their e-mails include the company's logo on a kind of e-stationary, which ends up as an un-openable attachment when received on our end. The VP wants to know why we can't open it!!?? Is there anything that can be done other than telling these people to stop sending the logo?

You must have some sort of HTML filtering on your mail server - do you host the mail server in house?

Can you even receive/view HTML emails?? If not then it could be your server that is causing the problem, and not the other companys...If you can receive HTML, and the mail your talking about, does come in and is viewed in HTML format, but the pic is as an attachment, what is the file extention of it?? eg, bmp or gif etc.....

It's not Outlook that has to recognise these extentions, its the programs that use them, ie, Adobe Illustrator to read any .ai files....so if the mail comes in and the attachment is pic.ai, Outlook will show it as a Windows logo file type, and Windows will not know what to open it with. Once you have Adobe Illustrator installed, you can open it straight from Outlook. Jay~
