HI GUYS, HOPE U CAN HELP ME WITH THIS ISSUE, HOW CAN I ENABLE G729a (8Kbps) COMPRESSION ON A NEC ITR-8D DTERM IP PHONE? IS IT POSSIBLE TO DO IT ON THE PHONE? OR WHAT DO I NEED DO ACCOMPLISH THIS?
Hi, assuming that the IPS has already been configured and programmed correctly for VoIP and ALL the CODECS and location data has been set for G729a, you assign the location data to the extension using command 1239.
You need to have location data set for the IP-PAD, IP trunks (if any) and the correct CODECS assigned in command 42.
SO I CAN'T ENABLE IT DIRECTLY ON THE PHONE? TO CLARIFY MY SCENARIO, I'M LOCATED IN PERU (SOUTHAMERICA), I CONNECT TO AN OFFICE IN CALIFORNIA WHERE THE PBX IS LOCATED, USING A T1 CONNECTION. WHEN I CHECK MY T1 STATUS I SEE THAT MY PHONES ARE CONSUMING 64Kbps EACH SO I WAN'T TO OPTIMIZE MY BANDWIDTH USING ONLY 8Kbps PER PHONE (G.729a COMPRESSION). DO I NEED SOME KIND OF HARDWARE TO ACCOMPLISH THIS? I HEARD ABOUT SOME TYPE OF CARD THAT HAS TO BE ATTACHED TO THE PHONE. I WOULD APPRECIATE VERY MUCH IF YOU CAN EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT DO I NEED.
