Please clarify your meaning - if you manually delete the .dbx files, the mail contained within them will be gone. What makes you think they are 'excessive in size'? If you delete unneeded message & compact the folders, the sizes will be reduced.
The .DBX files are email messages that have already been deleted and therefore not of any further use. If I needed any of them they would not have been deleted.
Deleted Items folder is 250 MB
Inbox folder is 18.1 MB
Outbox folder is 7.13 MB
Sent Items folder is 119 MB
These are excessive in size. DBX files are not the emails currently in Outlook Express that you would compress to reduce the size.
The .dbx files make up the mail store folders seen within OE. And yes they do contain the OE mail. They are actually a database of sorts. If you think that there is wasted space within these database files, the correct course of action is to compact them from within OE as I mentioned earler.
