I've got a development system with MS2000 Analysis Services. I develop two or three cubes that consume a reasonable number of MBs. Now I need to copy this cube definition (the data itself is not important) to a customer system where we will rebuild using the client's data.

I typically accomplish this by archiving the cube, zipping, copying to the client system, and restoring. Once restored we have to tweak the datasource but otherwise we are up and going.

When I archive, the archive file (.cab I think) size seems to depend upon how much data is in the cube. Is there a way to "empty" the cube before doing the archive?

Or..........maybe this approach is all wrong and there's a completely better way.

you can fully repoocess a dimension used by this cube which will cause the cube to become unprocessed, however this will affect all cubes used by this dimension. if you have a view as your data source for the fact table you can always where 1 = 2 at the end of the select statement.
