Hello,

I am extremely new at using Informix and would like to know how to edit views. I have created a view in the back end using a telnet seesion. However, now I wish to edit this view and say, add another join to it. The only way I can do this is to drop the view and recreate it. However, I cannot remember what I put in this view to recreate it. Is there any software package, something like SQL enterprise manager, that gives this graphical user interface that allows one to modify things like Store procedures and views. This is driving me crazy with this text based input. Thanks.

Hi,

You can see the contents of a created view by:
dbschema -d <database_name> -t <view_name> <output_filename>

This query thread179-652759 thread lists some of the third party developed GUI products similar to SQL Enterprise Manager; please have a look.

Thank you very much for the reply,

Sorry but I have one more question. Is there any tool that will allow me to edit the view say by a right mouse button rather then by manually typing text. I'm more of a graphical user interface guy. I know this sound lame but just checking. Cause there are about 15 people who will need to learn this. Thanks again.

Try ftping the view to your Windows desktop and then using a good text editor to give you more powerful tools like search and replace in a visual format. Make sure the text tool does saves the file in unix format.

Good luck!

Jack
