How to draw a logo in PSP7 without saw-tooth edges 2

Can someone please advise me how to produce a logo in PSP7 that does not have ugly saw-tooth edges. I realise that this is probably because it is a bit-map image but how can I avoid it?

The logo will need to be used both small (1-inch) and large (say 6-inches). As soon as I try to produce an image the diagonal lines or circles look appalling. Even when I try to import an image and change it, I still get the same result.

I have spent a lifetime in graphics and print but this is the first time I have tried to use my computer for this type of work. Do I have to go back to drawing large artwork, scanning it, and then using it as a TIF, or whatever?

Use Vector tools or anti-aliasing when you create the lines or objects.

Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

Many thanks, vacunita. The speed of that reply was absolutely mind-blowing! I never had time to stroke the cat before it came through! Just a minute, I don't have a cat!

But, seriously, I will investigate both of these suggestions and I assume that these options are both available on PSP, which I use almost exclusively for manipulating photographs.

Thanks again.

Yes they are, although I don't remember how developed they were back in PSP7, particularly the Vector Tools.

Is there any way you could upgrade to version 9. maybe 10. I use 9 and its Vector abilities are really well developed.

Thanks again for your help. Vector tools seem to be well served in PSP7 but there is no mention of anti-aliasing (I understand the prinicple though).

I must look into the upgrading.

Both vector tools and anti-aliasing are well supported in PSP7, as I remember. There's no need to upgrade. Look out for an "anti-alias" checkbox on vector objects' properties dialogs. Heck, now that you use the magic words to search for you should be able to find it in the help file.

Something to bear in mind, though: PSP vector drawings are brilliant, but you can't save them in any file format that other programs will understand ( wmf, for example). To actually use your logo you'll have to convert it to a bitmap.

Now - forgive me if this is something you already know - images you use on-screen are much smaller than ones destined for print. It's no good getting logos to look 1" or 6" across on your monitor, because when you print them they'll either be much smaller or much blockier. You should be making them 300 pixels across for every inch you want. When you paste it into a word processing document, size it how you need it - it might actually look worse on-screen, but it will be better on paper.

Thanks Chris for a very useful reply.

Just one point, though. If one has to convert the finished article back to a bitmap does that not defeat the object of the exercise?

Eric

Not entirely. You create a vector image to act as a single original copy.

When you want to use it somewhere, you can resize it to whatever size you need, then export it as a bitmap to wherever you're going to use it.

Thanks again, Chris. I wish I still had my "french curves" and Rapidograph pens!

Obviously I am going to have to do some research into vector drawings.

But seriously, I do appreciate your effort to help me. This is just an area I have managed to avoid until now.
