Hi all,

We did a good job building several (complex) catalogues and about 250 reports on several databases.
Unfortunately we didn't do a good job to document it all.

Now I'm looking for a tool to take care of it automaticaly.

Any suggestions?

By the way, we are using Impromptu 7 series.

Thanks,
Erwin.

Erwin,

I am working with the Cognos tools for years now and I agree, documentation is (one of) the worst.

There is however a tool and I think the only one, that can analyze catalogues, report's and even (now) Transformer models. It will fill up a db with cross links, so you can do ie impact analysis, etc.
The link to the site is

We have had the possibility to eval the tool, it is expensive but can do wonders for managing the complete Cognos environment.

Hope to have helped you.
Franspeter.

Hi Franspeter,

Thanks for your helpful reply. I just had a look at the site you mentioned and the product seems to do just what I want. They don't have a trial version but you can send one catalog and two reports to them and they will return the output generated with IRM so you can evaluate the result with your own reports. Great service for free.

Cheers,
Erwin.

erwin123,

There is another product as well does a great job of documenting your catalogs, models and reports. Called Docuvisn by Envisn Inc.
