Why not use a Terminal Server device to connect the serial admin port to the LAN. Lantronix and DIGI amoung others make one port Terminal Servers to connect serial devices to the LAN.
I have 14 of these in use and will be installing 20 more in the next 3 years. It saves hundreds of miles of driving and is a great dependable tool.
That being said, here's the deal,,
That's all you need is an IP (static) address at the Merlin Magix or Legend location. Tell your LAN administrator that LAN port 10001 needs to be "open".
The good part is that you don't need QOS or LLQ activated on the static address. I can see your LAN guy smiling
At the monitoring location you need a desk or laptop (Windows 98SE or better) with WINSPM 5.0 and Socket Magix 9.0 loaded. The software comes with the Socket Magix unit.
Hope this helps, email me if you want.
