I've got a customer with around 50 digital phones he wants to upgrade to J Series and keep all of the same extension numbers and programming. He want to make it so his users will walk in on Monday morning and simply log their new J-Series phone in with their existing digital phone extension number. This is what I plan to do:
Install and program the new J Series side by side with the digital phones so that the J Series are presenting a log in screen
Create an off-line config of the existing system, renumber all of the existing digital phones to an unused extension range. Add new SIP users to replace each of the digital users. After hours upload this off-line config to the IPO as it's new config. At this point I think a system reboot is required.
When the users arrive on Monday they should be able to just log in their new phones with their current extension number
I will return to remove the old digital phones.

Does this sound like a workable solution? Is there anything I've forgotten or is there anything any of you would do different?

Thank you in advance!!!

For me i would just go in friday night and install the IP phones and remove the digital all in 1 step. before you start blank out the digital ports in the system and create the new SIP extensions. then as you go around you can install them, log them in and remove the digital all in 1 step.

I ended up telling the customer I would just go to each desk and do one digital to IP swap at a time. A lot less room for errors...

In Manager, in Extensions (not Users) blank out the extension number of each digital extension port.
Create new SIP Extensions for the Users.
The current digital phones will remain logged in with their current Users, unless you reboot the control unit. Now you just install the J phones on the desks and get them to the login prompt. Circle back around and log in the J phones. The digital phones will go to NoUser at that point, and you just unplug them and throw in a box.

Over the years I have found TouchToneTommy to be extremely knowledgeable, helpful and a source of excellent information, often on things that just arent in the manuals. I wish he was next door :)
