We have run out of alphabet letters for drives, so we've started using mount points. Is there a way to display those mount points in 'My Computer' so we can see at a glance the free space on those drives?

The only way I have made this work, is to share out the mount point, then map a drive letter to it. It then shows up under Network drives and gives you an accurate account of disk space usage.

You should be able to do this from your machine as well since your server is almost out of letters.

You should also be able to get this information if you look in Disk Management as all the drives should be listed along with the required information?

Hmm.. These are both good points. That means there's probably a way to use a WMI script to do it, too. I'll see what I can scrape up.

You can assign a drive letter to a mount point. Just go into disk management and add the drive letter to each volume.

But that begs the question - why use mount points and drive letters?

Plan for performance, and capacity takes care of itself. Plan for capacity, and suffer poor performance.

I wonder if Microsoft has figured a way to see these mount points in "My Computer". I have many of them in my SQL cluster, and it is quite inconvenient to go to disk manager to view them...I'll research further and report back.
