How to display an animated gif file?

Our project runs on 2 platform PC and HP-UX. We have an animated gif file that we just need to run it on a window dialog.
We were able to do it on PC platform using Java. But our lagacy code running on HP-UX are in C/C++. Does anyone has some animation code in C that we can use? It doesn't have to be fancy, just be able to run the animated gif files.
