How to disable write caching?

I have a removable, hot-swap SATA drive I am using for backup on my 2003, sp2 server. Upon removal of this drive, I will occasionally see an error message saying not all data has been written to the drive. I would like to optimize this drive for quick removal, but these options are all greyed out on the policies tab of the drive properties windows. How can I change this value for this drive only with thse options greyed out?
