I know this may sound like a sill question but here's my prob.

I use Norton AV not Arcserv anti-virus. I create jobs with no virus scan (GFS & non-GFS) the job runs OK for 3 or 4 days then BAM!! Job fails, I take a look at the job and virus scan is enabled. I remove the check mark and job runs fine. That is as long as I have 7 tapes to work with. If not
I'm in trouble.

Because the job goes active, it has already formated the tape and puts it in the save set. When I only have 5 tapes
trying to do a full 5 day backup, I have to reassign the tape to a scratch set and re-do the job. You can see how this can be a real pain in the ***.

Although this may sound like no big deal, try doing it 50 servers.

OS is NW5.1 w/SP5 & AS7
and yes I have the latest patches. I think.

Hey,

I see your point. I was in the same boat long ago when I was using Norton. But after I switched over to Inoculan, I've been fine mate. No problem at all. From a professional point of view, I would not like to have different vendors products in a Network the reason being compatibility issues. Check Inoculan and its options. They are cool and far more superior than that of other AV vendors in the market. Inoculan has the option of scanning Incoming files only or scanning outgoing files only and scanning Incoming and Outgoing files. I understand that this might not be an immediate solution to your problem.

However, I suggest that you look at this option in the long run. In the meanwhile, all you can do is use the pre-post option and stop the AV services. This way, the AV service will not interfere when you are taking a backup. Hope this helps. Cheers!
