how to disable the screen saver?

hello,
I try to use the xset command like this:
"xset s off " . then it fails and tell me:
"unable to open displau "" .

I try to use &quot;xset -display <myhostname>:lft0 s off &quot;, but it still fails.

how can I use it correctly and disable the screen saver?
