how to disable the navigation buttons of IE

i'm doing a project where i need to disable the Back and Forward buttons of IE. i'm wondering if there is a way to disable directly the buttons or disable the action associated with those buttons.

I don't know about disabling them but you can simply remove them by right clicking on said navagation bar and choosing customize.

Even if you do figure out how to hide the buttons, you can still use alt-left or alt-right for back and forward...????
