Greetings,

Would like to know how to disable roaming profiles on our windows 2003 server. I believe it was enabled by default after the install, but the logon times on the workstations are too long.

Also, when I log onto the server itself and logoff, I get an error message saying could not copy the romaing profile a temporary profile will be used instead.

Another question I have is when assigning permissions to the Windows XP Pro domain computers, I do not see the active directory users or domain users on the list of locations, just the local machine. Can this be fixed?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Remember, if you disable roaming profiles, those users who roam will have different profiles for each workstation they log into. You can save time logging into roaming profiles by caching the profile on each workstation.

GPO->Default Domain Policy (or which ever you use for your roaming users)->Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->System->User Profiles->Delete cached copies of roaming profiles:Disable

To remove the all together, go to AD Users and Computers->Right click the User->Properties->Profile Tab. If there is a path mentioned in the Profile Path: text box, remove it.

Oh I should mention that if you are not caching the profile and you remove the roaming profile the users will start with a default profile; losing all of their desktop icons, start menu items, favorites, etc, etc, etc...
