Please Help!

How can I disable my on-board AGP video card? There is not an option in the BIOS to disable the card or through device manager. I have an "Acer Aspire Model 2870" and according to "Acer Support" there is not a method to disable the on-board video cad, and supposedly there is no BIOS update for this board. I have Version V3.1. I Have tried to install two different cards, with a new nvida card i got "no signal" and with an older ATI card the screen froze after start-up but before the window's screen opened.

Any suggestions would be greatly apprecited.

I don't know for sure about Acer, but most brands of PC's that I work on that have onboard video also have a jumper or a switch block located on the MOBO. And some like IBM auto detect the video configuration change when you install a different type of video card, pci or agp. I'd open the box and get a real good look at that MOBO..

Good luck,

According to Acer there are no jumper settings to disable the on board card. I downloaded the layout of the mainboard and did not see any jumbers related to the video card. I don't know what a switch block is, but don't remeber seeing or reading anything about it when I was looking at the layout.

Thanks,

Danny

If you are trying to install a PCI card in place of the onboard card then there should be an option in the bios to look for primary video on PCI instead of AGP (check all the options in the bios, but probably under video). Also you might need to disable the onboard agp through the device manager in windows.
I did this recently to get a PCI card to work. However I now have problems getting video in the bios, so tread with caution.

this is pretty easy if you cant do it on motherboard/bios
just start up like normal..go to your device manager (start ->settings ->control ->panel ->system ->device manager) in windows and right click on the video device and click disable. now restart. should be fine.

hope i helped
