how to DISABLE Flash?

Sadly, it seems more and more sites I visit these days feel they have to play some flash video, complete with annoying sounds and everything. It's enough that I've decided I'd like to remove/disable Flash altogether.

I've looked in the "downloaded program files," "add/remove programs," and all the IE settings, but I have not found where to do this. Please, if you know how to disable these things, post it here for me.

It should be under Add/Remove programs under Macromedia. Click and uninstall.

Nope.. it's not there. I have Macromedia Fireworks 4 installed, but that's it.. Hmmmm....
