Recently we've installed four new printers and they're all printing banner pages whenever anyone prints. All our other printers don't print any banner pages, but they're not new installations and these are the first printers that we've installed since the last netware service pack install. I've gone into iManager -> iPrint -> Manage Printer, and they are all set up exactly like all the others that aren't printing banner pages. Can someone help me with this, it is driving me crazy.

Banner pages are controlled at the client side. If there is a CAPTURE statement in the login script, make sure it has the /NB parameter. In the Novell client properties, I'm pretty sure that one of the tabs has a check box for banners on capture. It seems there's one other place, but I can't recall just now.

I've checked everything there is to check on the client side of things. It isn't computer specific, it is printer specific. The new printers print banner pages for anyone who prints to them regardless of the computer used.

I very, very sure that banner generation is a client-side issue. I just took another look at my server at work, and didn't see anywhere server-side for configuring banners.

How are these printers connected to the server? Traditional queues? NDPS? Direct?

How is printing being re-directed to them? Direct to the queue? capture statement? NDPS?

What version of the NetWare client are you using?

Some printers can be configured to print banners. Maybe check the printer configuration itself.

I have checked the printer configurations and found nothing. The printers are NDPS printers (2 HP 4650, 1 HP 4345, and 1 HP 5N) which are configured through iManager and we use iPrint to load them on the individual computers.

I would like to believe that the banner pages were only client related, but I don't think that it is. Only the newly installed printers print banner pages, regardless of where you print from and who prints. It just seems that if the problem were client related, then the banner pages would print for everyone everywhere which isn't the case.

The legacy NetWare Queue based printing was generally controlled on a per client basis, therefore you had the ability to turn banners on or off from the client.

I have never seen this ability on iPrint or NDPS. You should be able to find a setting in iManager that controls the banners. There are two places to check. Do this:

Manage the printer in question.. Click on the "COnfiguration" Tab. Then click on the "Custom Banner" link. There should either be nothing in the list or [NONE] should be selected.

Then click on the "Defaults (Legacy)" link. You'll see more banner settings in there. Make sure the BANNER drop down dialog is set to [NONE].

Once you do this, you shouldn't get any banners.

Oh, you also need to restart your NDPSM manager or shut down and restart the Printer agent you modify for the settings to take effect.

It still sounds like you're checking the Novell system configuration. I meant, check the *printer* configuration, usually by telnetting or browsing to the printer's IP address. Perhaps the printer itself is adding the banner, completely outside of NetWare's control.

I did check the printer configuration on the printers themselves, and that wasn't the problem. As it turns out there is a patch for NW65 SP3 to fix this exact issue. Our network administrator found it on Friday afternoon. The link to the TID is below.
