Hi folks,

at our company we're using a SparcStation5 running Sun Solaris as a print server.
Now I'm wondering how to determine which version of Sun Solaris is running on that system...

Is there an equivalent for the "oslevel command under AIX" for Sun Solaris or how can I find out which version it is ?

Thanks in advance !

Regards
Thomas

You could also try looking at the contents of

/var/sadm/softinfo/INST_RELEASE

As it happens the subject of Solaris operating system versions has generated quite a bit of discussion in this forum - try a search on 'version' if you're interested. Cheers.

Thanks a lot folks !

That's exactly what I needed...

I'm running Solaris 7. How do you determine if its 5/99 or 11/99? Thanks!

at a terminal prompt type ( uname -a ) when you hit the enter key you should see SUNOS sparcname 5.x generic xxxx sun4 sparc SUNW,SPARCstation5

The 5.x or whatever number is there is your version of SUNOS

You could also try :

# cat /etc/release

.
