Is their a way to determine the size of a backup based on the selected items before backup begins?

In backup exec 10 and 11d you can right click on the job in the job setup tab and perform a test run. This will determin byte cound "uncompressed"

I have noticed that the 'Test Run' doesn't work 100% of the time when doing a differential because of the needing to compare the archive bit time. At least for myself

you can also enable the "prescan" (in the Tools->options screen). However, be careful with very large file structures. Try it, but if you have problems with differential and incremental jobs, change it back to no prescan.
