How to Determine Percent Completion of Task within MS Project

Is there a way for MS Project to calculate the actual completion rate (percent) of task with target/suspense dates prior to the end of the time frame for the project?

In other words what percent of task have I completed that were due (as an examplet) by Nov 5, 2008.

You ask the resource how much work has been done, how much more work needs to be done and on what date the resource wil be finished that task.

There is, unfortunately, no way that Project can determine how much has been done. That's why they pay you the big bucks.
