How to determine memory upgrade?

My server is a Xeon 1.6, 1024 mem, using SQL 2000

I would like some direction on how to check the performance of the server, if a memory upgrade is needed or how to identify transaction with problems. If the profiler or performance monitor is the tool I need to do that, where do I found a material to know how to use?
