I am working on a MSI MS-6741 Motherboard running the VIA VT8237 SATA RAID controller with 2 x 200Gb Maxtor drives.

Now, the drives are not currently in an array, the system will not boot, and going by what I can see it will not boot until I set up the two drives either in RAID 0 or RAID 1 array and set the array as bootable.

Here is the problem:

I do not know what mode the discs were originally set-up in. If they were mirrored and I set it up to stripe he loses all his data. And vice versa, so how can I tell?

Cheers,

Update:

Discs are showing as follows:

Disc 1 has 20 Gb free and is FAT32

Disc 2 is showing as unused and is in an unknown format.

So, if he has striped the discs he is screwed, am I right?

Next step please!!! hehe!
