I know that Btrieve 6.15 files are upward compatible with PSQL-8 and if created by 6.15 they can be read and written by both systems. If a file was created by PSQL-8 then 6.15 cannot open it.

A Customer sent me a file that I can't open on 6.15 - I get error "Not a Btrieve File". In looking at the raw hex data it is infact a data file but can't tell if header is corrupt or if it's a PSQL-8 file.

How do I determine version by looking at bytes in header or ??

I'm not aware of a way to do it by looking at the bytes. Just download the latest version of the WGE from Pervasive.com and use BUTIL to see if it's a V8 file or it gives a status 30.
