How to delete objects which extend beyond the canvas edge?

I've noticed that when I enlarge objects so that they extend beyond the edges of thr canvas, this area beyond the visible canvas adds to the size of my file.

This is not good.

Is there a method for removing this superflous area beyond the edge?

Crop the document to the actual canvas size/
