I have a file on a shared drive is protected
Anybody can open the file but you need a password to modify it

as it turns out I can't delete the file or change any of the contents. I get the error msg

Circle with an X
Error deleting file
Can not delete filename access is denied
make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use

I know the file is not in use and the disk is not write protected.

Any ideas?

Heeeeeeeelp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dumboy.! Ouch.! .my brain.....
spiderdesign@yahoo.com

It's hard to think with only one neuron......Ouch.....!....it hurts when I think......!

Open the file entering all of the protection passwords. Do a File > Save As, select Options and remove the ******* from the password box. Hit OK. Save the file, overwriting the old copy. Now you should be able to delete the file. If not, you may need to check the permissions on the shared folder. Some permissions may allow you to create/modify files but not let you delete them.

Thanks... that was it, the shared folder only allows the owner of the document to delete it... since I just added the passwords, the owner of the document was able to delete it with no further complications.... thanks again tclere
Dumboy.!
