How to define the physical location for archived messages?

Conditions: Groupwise 5.5, Netware 4.11 and NT 4.0 platform

Question: Is there a way of defining where the messages in each folder of the cabinet are physically stored? In the GW client I can set a file location by opening the Tools menu, then Options, Environment and then selecting the tab File location. If I select a folder here, which messages are stored in the specified location? All? The ones in the folder which was selected while the location was set?

I'm asking this because our sales people need to archive a lot of sent items and it reserves disk space on the GW server. Part of the disk space problem could be solved if there was a way to delete just the attachment files from the sent messages. That can't be done even if the sent items are archived in the cabinet folders just like any message received.

you can create a rule for each of the folders in your cabinet to do it....i currently have mine set up that way and it works just fine

The Cabinet and Folders are still part of the GroupWise Message Store and exist on the same Volume as the Post Office directory. Eventually the messages in the Cabinet and Sent Items will build up and eat all the space on the Volume. About 15% of my users have consumed the majority of the disk space on the server because they deem every message as having the highest value to their jobs.
You need to set the user Environment under Options so that the Archive Path points to a drive that has plenty of free space. The Archive is just a folder with a personal message store inside and can be copied to another location later and still be accessed at any time.
I generally keep the Archive on the server in the Users Home directory, which is a different Volume from the PO Volume thus when you Archive old messages it makes room in the Message Store and free space can be recovered. You then need to setup the Clean Up options to Auto Archive the messages older than say 90 days or longer.
Also set the space quota on the User Home directory to avoid them from over welming that Volume as well.
