Procedure to default UM800 VM.
1.Using putty, try to connect to the UM8000 system and restore factory defaults via "Maintenance>Restore default database" option. If this procedure fails, follow the steps from bellow.
2.Assuming that loading the default database in putty does not help:
2.1 . Hook up a Monitor and a USB keyboard straight to the UM8000 VM-00 board.
2.2. As we are going to format everything, it does not need a proper shutdown at this time - pull the card out as it is.
2.3. Plug the card back in with the Keyboard/Monitor still connected.
2.4. As soon as you plug it in, start hitting repeatedly the SPACE key. (Same as you hit F2 when you want to get to Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) in a Personal Computer (PC).
2.5. A menu will appear where you will be able to select the "Rescue" mode. (On other related AV/AVST Linux products, the menu may be presented as a "Lilo:" prompt instead - for these you would just type "rescue")
2.6. The system will boot up and present a menu, where you will select option "3" to load "factory defaults". This procedure basically reformats the flash partition and reinstalls everything from the recovery partition. Please make sure you do not see any error on the attached monitor during this step. The system should not reboot by itself during this step! Unfortunately, "load factory defaults" also downgrades our product back to the version it was originally shipped at.
2.7. Return to the previous menu and then select the option to reboot.
2.8. You need to download and apply the upgrades again.
2.9. Test functionality on the default database.
2.10. Depending on the state of your backups, you may be able to upload them back from your laptop to the voicemail (and restore them)
Note1: There is a "Load" button on the face of the VM00 board. The hardware manual actually documents using this button instead of the procedure above. It is however much riskier to perform this without monitoring exactly what happens in step 6!
Note2: It is better to avoid using the "Load" button for plain resets due to the huge potential for an undesired factory defaults load.
