Looking for more information on how to build tables and what load to use to get a print out of the current table.
I am looking to convert 4 digit to 5 digit extension internally although dialing from external will stay the same. I know this is going to be a lot and I say a lot of work but I want to get deeper into this so if any have any ideas, information lying around, or websites to access to get more information would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

TO print all of your numbers, go into LD 20 and print a DNB

LD 20
REQ: PRT
TYPE: DNB

The nice thing about the DNB is it shows ALL numbers, extensions, ACD, steering codes, etc...

It will be tedious work converting everything from 4-5 digits. You will also need to determine how many digits telco is sending you as they may mave to make adjustments. Also, if you are using ISDN PRI service one thing often overlooked when doing extension lenght conversions is the LDN in the customer data block (LD 21, PRT: CDB), if your LDN is set to a 4 digit number and you change your extensions to 5 digits, calls will not go through. Make sure you change the LDN. Alot of times the LDN is a bogus number such as 1234. With ISDN, the LDN number is used as template for how many digits to translate on.

Digit conversion....boy howdy....I did 6 sites that went from a 4 digit to 5 digit extension with Coordinated Dialing.

Things to watch out for:

Meridian Mail: There is a function within the PBX that will allow you to set up Mailboxes when you create a phone. This can be done on the PBX. (VMBA) If you do not turn this off, when you change the phonesets, the mailboxes will be deleted. You DO NOT want this to happen. Makes for very angry users.

MAT was very helpful in doing this, as long as you don't have any ACD phones. I found it easier to just rebuild the ACD phones. If Symposium is involved, there was a Bulletin that was put out by Nortel that actually states NOT to make changes to these phones, but rather out them and rebuild.

Time: It took nearly All Weekend to make the conversion at our main location. We had to do two PBX's with about 5000 extensions (main line and roll up lines). When you start, understand that you cannot stop until it is finished. Take a few days off before and rest. It was a long night and weekend to get this pulled off

IDC Tables: if you do not use them and the LEC will continue to pulse 4 digits, you will need to create one

LD 49

1. REQ: NEW
2. TYPE: IDC
3. CUST: 0
4. DCN0: new idc table number.

If you do not have this you will need to create this in LD 86
LD 86

REQ: CHG
CUST: 0
MXDM: HOWEVER MANY YOU WILL NEED

Once the table is built you will just make the conversion

1 X1
2 X2

yada yada.

Remember you will need to change a lot, so plan it out. There are LDN's, Route ACOD's, just about anywhere you use some type of extension. Might be best to do this over a weekend.

That's the long way. Here's an easier way.

If you have a spare switch. A test switch. You know the one that all companies have lying around. You can rebuild the database in that PBX from a database restore, make all your programming changes and then back up the information and then restore to your active PBX. That is what we did on the last conversion. Worked well, but still takes a lot of time to set up. Your service provider might be able to help you with this, for a price, but I tell you it was well worth it. I type fast, but after 36 hours on the job, it gets messy. MAT may be doing all the work, but someone has to set it up.

Thanks for all your inputs and information. I really appreciate it. I have a Octel voicemail system so I guess I wont run into the Meridian mail problem of accidently deleting it. But yes it will be alot of work and having to deal with the teleco providers.

Thanks again....

if you have any questions feel free to email me.

Don't forget you will need the DN Expansion package (DNXP-150)
