How do I create a new job to backup a remote SQL server? This server is not visible from our network and therefore is not visible from the Veritas New Job screen. How can I set up Veritas to login to that remote server automatically and backup initially?

#1 Do you have the Remote Agent installed? It doesn't sound like you do, since Veritas Backup Exec can't see the remote server.

#2 How are you backing up SQL Server? Do you have the Agent for SQL?

I personally do not like using the SQL Agent. I use SQL Server's BACKUP DATABASE command and backup to a hard drive. That creates a .bak file. Then I use Veritas to copy that .bak file to tape.

Thank you for your help. It turns out that it is not possible to backup offsite servers with Veritas SQL agent. I will look into the .bak option you mentioned for our local SQL servers though.
