I need to create a report that has the basic columner format you'd find in a phone book.

There would be 4 or 5 lines of detail (just like a mailing lable w/ a phone number). I need to group the records by CITY, then PROFESSION, with the individual names in standard alpa order. I have played with using the mailing label template (avery 5160) to do most of this but am unsure how the groupings will affect the template setup.

At the top, on the header, I'd like to output the 1st CITY and last CITY on each page.

What I'm looking for are any suggestions on the best way to proceed (do I use the mailing label template or does Crystal 8.5 have another mechanism for producing columner reports)?

Thanks,

Oliver

The mail label template is the one to use - you can custimize the "label" pretty easily.
You have the option of having the group headers/footers follow the columnar format, or remain full width.
Putting the city in the header is a problem - the report prints from top down, and doesn't know for sure when it starts preparing the page just what the last record that will fit on the page will be.
You could put that same first/last city information in the page footer though, if that is a compromise the users will accept. Malcolm

I think I could force that sort of compromise if it's the easiest way to get more or less the same result. I'll play around with my grouping formats.

Thanks,
Oliver
