How to create an attachment from oridinary flat file and mail it

Hi,
I have created an ordinary flat file and successfully mailed the contents where the contents of the flat file appears in the body of the message(mail). If i want to send that flat file as attachment through mail what can be done? what format will that attachment appear? Please reply in detail.

It would help a lot if you could tell us

1- OS used (as using a AS400 is not the same as a MVS, not to speak of M$)
2- Mail software used
3- COBOL software used
4- Parameters used to send the email


Depending on those the answer will be very different.

And also please post what you have coded so far.

I have done what you want using Microsoft Outlook express, Lotus Notes, Yahoo Mail, etc. There may be file size limits on some mail servers to stop this.

If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

What ceh4702 said. If you know how to mail a file attachment, then, the size is the limit.

But I suspect the real question hasn't been asked. My suggestion is: mail it and come back to us when you run into a problem.
