HOW TO CREATE A SUM OF A SUMMARY FIELD. I TRIED SUM(@EMP. TOTAL,EMPNO.)I GET THE ERROR SUMMARY/ RUNNING TOTAL FIELD CAN NOT BE CREATED.

In the search box at the top of the page, type 'Summary/Running Total'. In the drop-down list, select Search FAQs (Keyword). Click GO. Several FAQs have been posted about this.

Crystal has a rigid cycle of doing things, which stops you re-using certain types of field.

Go back to the original field you summarised and do a grand total. If you've got Crystal 8.5, you ought to be offered this as an option when you right-click and choose [Insert] and [Summary]. It helps to put your version when asking a question, because different versions have different abilities.

Also look at running totals, which are subtler and have extra options.

Finally, upper case is conventionally understood as SHOUTING. Please don't unless you have something to shout about.

The best way to handle this is through variables. You sum the Summary field to which ever group level you want. Each summary field you want to summarize would require three variables. You have to do it at the final pass - while printing records.
