Hi,

I have to warn you from the start that I suck at creating graphics and haven't been trained in using PSP, however I have it installed on my system. I'm a web developer, but for some reason I have a hard time understanding how to properly create graphics.

With that said, here's what I want to do. I want to create a rounded top graphic that will be a border for a table. Next, I want to create a rounded bottom graphic. For an example of what I am talking about, you can go to:

for a sample of my current graphics.

I simply want to change the colors. I tried importing them into PSP and doing a fill, but I was told I couldn't because the graphic had to be 24-bit gradient????

Next, I tried to just create a new rounded graphic by specifying the dimensions, but coudn't figure out where to select the color. I don't want to change anything, but the color from #ff0000 to #9933cc.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

All you should need to do to change tha colour of that graphic file is

1) OPen Paint shop pro
2) open the saved graphic file
3)Change colour depth to 16 million from the menu bar Colours|Increase Colour Depth
4) Select the Fill Tool (Paint pot from the tools menu
5 Make sure Style is set to solid color not gradient fill from the style pallete
6) Select the colour you want and fill the grahpic
7) Reduce the colour depth Colour|Reduce Colour Depth
8) Save the graphic

Its easier to to than describe honest It's not a lie if you believe it!

In step 6 you will probably have to use the magic wand to select the graphic foreground element.

After step 6, if the image was a gif, then you can just save the image and you will be prompted to reduce the color depth, just select Ok.

If ne4x4's suggestion does not do what you want, let us know. We are here to help.

Thanks ne4x4 and mThomas for your suggestions.

I tried the above, but after I select my color and then go to my graphic to fill (it has the paint can at that point), it fills it with my new color, but now it is a bar instead of retaining the neat curves of the original graphic. I changed it from a red curved graphic to simply being a purple bar. Is there any way to prevent that?

Please advise if you get a chance.

Thanks for the advice.

Oh, ok. I think I've got it!!!

I did use the Magic Wand after selecting the color to select the image. That worked like a charm!

ne4x4, I checked the Tools Palette as you suggested and reset the values accordingly. Hang in there with the flu. There's an awful bug going around. I'm just recovering...

Thanks again for the great help.

Your welcome
Just a thought, the image you started with has a white background, if you want to use your re-coloured version on a page with something other than a white background
From the menu bar

Colurs|Set Pallete Transparency

Use the colour picker to point at the white bits in the corner. then save the image, this will make white in the pallet entry to appear tranparent, then you will be able to use the same image on different colour backgrounds It's not a lie if you believe it!

One problem with the magic wand in versions 7 and older is that you can not antialias the selection. You can mess around with the tolerance asnd the feather. In PSP 8 (now out in beta) you can antalias a magic wand selection. Yea!!
